Mountain Home Alaskan Malamutes
Mountain Home kennel began in 1980 with the purchase of our first Malamute. We've been Alaskan Malamute Club of America members since 1986. Over the years our main interest has been sledding and we operated a commercial dog sledding business for over a dozen years. Now that we are no longer doing business as Malamute Express Dog Sledding Adventures, our web site includes more about our dogs instead of focusing on our commercial sledding trips as it did in the past.
Our involvement with the breed is many faceted. We've done lots of fun stuff with our dogs including of course many, many thousands of miles of sledding, but also carting, skijoring, backpacking, weight pulling and conformation dog shows. Sue has enjoyed judging both Puppy and Veteran Sweepstakes classes at Alaskan Malamute Specialty shows across the country, as well as judging twice at the Alaskan Malamute Club of America's National Specialty's Working Dog Showcase. Sue has served on AMCA's Working Dog Certification Committee since 1988 and has chaired the committee since 1990.
Mountain Home dogs have earned 19 Working Team Dog Excellent (WTDX) titles and also most notably, two of our dogs earned the very first 2 Working Lead Dog Excellent (WLDX) titles. They've earned 80+ additional working titles including Working Lead Dog (WLD), Working Team Dog (WTD), Working Weight Pull Dog (WWPD) and Working Pack Dog (WPD) titles. Also, in Obedience, Mountain Home dogs have achieved many titles; Companion Dog (CD), Companion Dog Excellent (CDX), Utility Dog (UD), Utility Dog Excellent (UDX), Utility Dog Excellent 2 (UDX2) and High In Trial (HIT). And in Agility; the Novice Agility (NA), Open Agility (OA), Agility Excellent (AX), Master Agility Excellent (MX), Novice Agility Jumper (NAJ), Open Agility Jumper (OAJ), Agility Excellent Jumper (AXJ), Master Excellent Jumpers With Weaves (MXJ) and Master Agility Champion (MACH) titles. In Rally Obedience; the Rally Novice (RN), Rally Advanced (RA) and Rally Excellent (RE) titles. We are very proud of and grateful to the other owners of our Mountain Home dogs who have helped to earn this multitude of titles!
Our dogs have made several school visits doing Alaskan Malamute/sled dog demonstrations, and have given dog sled rides to many school children, as well as the local Scouts and 4-H Groups. Malamute Express was featured on television; KING TV Seattle, KXLY TV Spokane, the Northwest Backroads and Evening Magazine programs and more. We also had a nice 4 page article about our dogs in Dog World magazine. Some of our Mountain Home dogs are pictured in the books The New Complete Alaskan Malamute (Riddle/Harris) and The Alaskan Malamute Yesterday and Today (Brooks/Wallis), The 1999, 2001 and 2007 Alaskan Malamute Annuals (Hoflin) and have been in countless newspaper articles as well as the AKC Gazette magazine. You can see some of our dogs on Sherluck's Multimedia Alaskan Malamute CD, an informative, interactive breed CD. Our dogs have even been used as props in several outdoor clothing catalogs. Their beauty, cooperation and willingness to please makes them a pleasure to work with and they are good ambassadors of the breed wherever they go.
We continue our small breeding program with usually just one or perhaps two litters per year. Our dogs reflect the hard work, attention and expertise of our 27+ years with this breed.  Each litter is carefully planned and thought out, to ensure the quality of the puppies that we bring into the world. We strive to produce the best all-round Alaskan Malamutes we possibly can.

We have gained a reputation for having dogs with exceptional temperaments as well as dogs who work very well in harness. We pride ourselves in having dogs that get along well with each other. Unlike some kennels where the dogs are kept separated, our dogs enjoy their daily group playtimes. We routinely let groups out to play together in their fenced area. We've had as many as 26 (yes, 26!!) of our Malamutes, of different ages and sexes, all playing happily in one bunch. We've found that dogs that socialize regularly with each other also work very well together in dog teams.
With the dogs being our full time job, they get plenty of individual attention and they receive the best of care. They are comfortable and secure in their spacious 20' x 20' kennels, though they don't mind their share of "couch time" either. They have an adjacent fenced play area where they are free to run and exercise daily. Our Malamutes delight in their companionship with us as well as the camaraderie of being with their Malamute buddies, whether at home or out on the trail.
Here at Mountain Home Kennel, we've been dedicated to preserving the working heritage as well as maintaining correct breed type in our Alaskan Malamutes for the past 27+ years. And above all else we continue to enjoy spending time with our canine pals.
